Kwara Women's Football Gets Grassroots Boost as Maiden League Kicks Off

Posted : 04 November 2026

Grassroots women's football in Kwara is set for a major boost as the maiden Kwara FA-YEG Women's League begins on Friday, Nov. 6, with four teams scheduled to feature in the opening round.

The competition will kick off with an intriguing encounter between Future Stars FA and Kwara United Queens at the Ofe-Aran Commercial College, Omu-Aran, at 3 p.m.

The opening fixture is expected to provide an early test of ambition, with the visiting Kwara United Queens facing a Future Stars side determined to make a strong impression in the inaugural competition.

Kwara United Queens, popularly known as the Courageous Queens, are expected to rely on their experience and quality to secure a positive result, but the hosts will be eager to exploit home advantage and challenge their more established opponents.

Future Stars FA have intensified preparations for the competition, with the Omu-Aran-based team looking to announce their arrival with an impressive performance before their home supporters.

The opening round will continue on Saturday, Nov. 7, with Olabim SA hosting Model Queens, while Champions Rise will battle Moje Queens in another eagerly anticipated encounter.

Beyond the competition for points and honours, the maiden league is designed to strengthen the foundation of women's football in Kwara through grassroots talent identification and development.

The initiative is also expected to expand opportunities for young female footballers, encourage community participation and provide a competitive platform for players seeking to progress to higher levels of the game.

With the inaugural season set to get underway, participating clubs will be hoping to make their mark in a competition expected to contribute to the growth and visibility of women's football across the state.
