Kwara United Seek Redemption Against Ikorodu City in Lagos

Posted : 10 October 2026

Kwara United will look to overcome a familiar challenge when they face Ikorodu City in a Matchday 8 fixture of the 2026/2027 Euromatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos this weekend.

The Harmony Boys have arrived in Lagos determined to secure a positive result against a side that has proved difficult to overcome, particularly on home soil.

Kwara United head coach Ashifat Sulyman has expressed confidence ahead of the encounter, describing Lagos as the club’s second home following their extensive involvement in matches played in the city last season.

However, familiarity with the environment may not be enough to guarantee success against an Ikorodu City side that has previously frustrated the Ilorin-based club.

Previous meetings between the two teams have highlighted the competitive nature of the fixture, with Ikorodu City holding their own on home soil. The Lagos side drew with Kwara United in Ilorin before defeating them in the return fixture in Lagos.

That record presents an additional challenge for Sulyman’s men, who must demonstrate greater consistency and composure to avoid another setback against their hosts.

For Kwara United, the encounter offers an opportunity to build on their recent performances, boost their confidence and secure valuable points as the league campaign gathers momentum.

However, the visitors will have to contend with the absence of Ouattara Khalifa and Tosin Olawale, who remain sidelined through injury.

The technical crew will need to adjust their plans to minimise the impact of these absences and ensure that the available players are adequately prepared for the contest.

With both teams seeking a positive result in Matchday 8, the clash at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena promises an intriguing battle of tactics, determination and execution.

Kwara United will hope to turn their familiarity with Lagos into a competitive advantage, while Ikorodu City will aim to capitalise on home support and maintain their strong record against visiting teams.
