Kwara United bounced back to winning ways with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Warri Wolves in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 24 encounter at the Rashidi Yekini Mainbowl of the George Innih Stadium, Ilorin.
The Harmony Boys approached the game cautiously after going three consecutive matches without scoring. However, the inclusion of newly signed Abdulsalam Abdulsalam and Hannafi Babatunde in the starting lineup added fresh impetus, as Kwara United dictated proceedings and unsettled the visitors’ defense.
Johnmark Aule went close on two occasions as the hosts pressed for an opener. Their persistence paid off in the 17th minute when Saheed Olaniyi produced a spectacular bicycle kick from Seun Ogunribide’s long throw, sending the home fans into wild jubilation.
Kwara United returned for the second half with renewed purpose and doubled their advantage when Olaniyi calmly converted a penalty after a Warri Wolves defender handled the ball in the box, completing his brace.
The visitors pulled one back in the 75th minute through Ita Peter, but despite late pressure, the Harmony Boys remained resolute to secure all three points.
After the match, Kwara United head coach Ashifat Suleiman described the victory as a welcome relief and a major morale booster ahead of their next fixture in Jos. Warri Wolves coach Napoleon Aluma commended the Kwara State Football Association, Kwara United management, and the Sports Commission for the pristine pitch, emphasizing the need for such standards across league venues.
Saheed Olaniyi was named Cyteck Man of the Match, with awards sponsored by Engr. Olaide Ahmed and Ambassador Yahaya Seriki, while the Coach Usman Biffo Man of the Match Award was also presented.
Kwara United now sit 17th on the NPFL table with 27 points after 23 games, still having an outstanding fixture against Rivers United. The Harmony Boys will next face Plateau United in Jos on Sunday.
