Kwara United Queens Intensify NWFL Preparations Despite Friendly Defeat

Kwara United Queens continued their build-up to the 2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Nationwide competition despite suffering a 3-0 defeat to Flourish Football Academy in a pre-season friendly played on Tuesday at the KFA Pitch in Ilorin.

The encounter provided the coaching crew with another opportunity to assess the squad, strengthen team chemistry and address tactical shortcomings ahead of the promotion tournament.

Flourish FA made a bright start, taking the lead in the seventh minute before adding a second goal in the 22nd minute to carry a 2-0 advantage into the half-time interval.

Determined to respond, the Courageous Queens introduced several changes after the break in a bid to improve their performance, but they were unable to convert their chances.

Jomiloju Oyedeji and Kafayat Abdulkareem both missed from the penalty spot, denying the hosts an opportunity to reduce the deficit and shift the momentum.

Flourish FA capitalised on their dominance by scoring a third goal to seal an emphatic victory.

Despite the setback, Kwara United Queens remain focused on fine-tuning the squad ahead of the NWFL Nationwide tournament and will return to training on Wednesday.

The Ilorin-based side will continue their preparations with another friendly fixture against Surprise FA U-15 on Thursday, Aug. 6, at the KFA Pitch.

Kwara United Queens have been drawn in Group A of the NWFL Nationwide competition alongside Solo Wonders Babes of Akwa Ibom and Spunky Blazers of Edo State.

The competition, scheduled to take place from Aug. 15 to 23 in Aba, Abia State, will feature 12 clubs battling for promotion to the NWFL Championship.

Although the result did not go their way, the friendly provided valuable lessons for the coaching staff and players ahead of the crucial promotion campaign. Kwara United Queens will look to build on the experience as they continue their preparations for the NWFL Nationwide competition.
