Kwara United Football Club were unlucky in their 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 25 encounter against Plateau United, as they conceded a late goal in the 89th minute to lose 1–0 at the new Jos Stadium.
The Harmony Boys approached the game with clear purpose and determination, setting out to pick valuable points away from home.
Their disciplined display kept the hosts at bay for most periods of the encounter.
Hannafi Babatunde stood out at the heart of the defence, catching the eye with his composure and calmness at the back.
He was well supported by Ogbonna Arinze, Saheed Olaniyi, Yahaya Ibrahim, and Seun Ogunribide, who all put in solid performances.
Kwara United almost took the lead towards the end of the first half when Johnmark Aule and Mustapha Salisu scrambled for an opportunity inside Plateau United’s vital area, but the chance went begging.
In the second half, Plateau United increased the pressure, pinning Kwara United deep in their own half.
The situation became more difficult when Mustapha Salisu, who had earlier replaced the injured Abdulsalam Abdulsalam in the 29th minute, was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, reducing the Harmony Boys to ten men.
Despite playing a man down, Kwara United continued to push forward. Johnmark Aule came close again in the 70th minute after connecting brilliantly with a pass from Samsudeen Mohammed, but his effort was parried out for a corner by the Plateau United goalkeeper.
The decisive moment came late in the game when Plateau United were awarded a free kick, which Sadiq Yusuf headed into the net to secure maximum points for the hosts.
Speaking after the match, Coach Ashifat Suleiman attributed the defeat to a momentary loss of concentration.
“We came here for at least a point, but we lost concentration at the end. We move on to the next game in Ilorin next Sunday,” he said.
The coach also allayed the fears of supporters over relegation, assuring them that the team will soon move out of the red zone.
Kwara United currently sit 18th on the NPFL table with 27 points after 24 games and will host Kano Pillars next Sunday in Ilorin.
