2025/2026 NPFL Matchday 8 Review: Kwara United Secures Valuable Point

Posted : 13 October 2025

Kwara United earned a crucial 1–1 away draw against Wikki Tourists, thanks to Toheeb Gidado’s equaliser and a series of key saves.

Kwara United secured a valuable away point in Bauchi after holding Wikki Tourists to a 1–1 draw in a Matchday 8 fixture of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium on Sunday.

The encounter began with high intensity as both sides pushed for maximum points, but the resilience and discipline of the Harmony Boys’ backline limited the hosts’ threats in the early stages.

Jonathan Mairiga opened the scoring for Wikki Tourists in the 23rd minute with a long-range effort that caught goalkeeper Nurudeen Badmus off guard.

Kwara United responded strongly, with Johnmark Aule, Junior Aimufua, and Ini Emmanuel continuously testing the hosts’ defence. Their persistence paid off in the 43rd minute when Toheeb Gidado unleashed a stunning strike from distance to bring the visitors level before halftime.

Wikki Tourists came out determined in the second half in search of a winner, but Kwara United’s organised defending and compact midfield play frustrated their efforts.

In the 73rd minute, the hosts were awarded a penalty, but Badmus produced a brilliant save to deny them, maintaining the 1–1 scoreline. The goalkeeper continued his fine form with several key stops until the final whistle.

Speaking after the game, Coach Ashifat Suleiman described the result as satisfactory, noting that while the team aimed for all three points, securing a point away from home was a fair outcome. He admitted that the team’s early exit from the CAF Confederation Cup had an impact on their rhythm but expressed confidence that the players were regaining full strength.

He assured fans that the technical crew would continue to correct lapses and mistakes as the team remains determined to compete strongly in the league.

Kwara United currently sit 13th on the NPFL table with 9 points after eight matches and will next host Katsina United on Sunday in Ilorin.
