NPFL Matchday 37: Kwara United and Enyimba Face Crucial Survival Test in Lagos

The Nigeria Premier Football League reaches a critical stage as Kwara United and Enyimba prepare for a decisive Matchday 37 encounter at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos on Sunday. With the season nearing its conclusion, both teams find themselves under pressure in the battle to avoid relegation.

The fixture carries significant weight, as only two matches remain in the campaign. Kwara United enter the clash in improved form, having gone five games unbeaten, and will be eager to secure maximum points in what serves as their final “home” fixture of the season after being forced to play away from Ilorin due to a five-match stadium ban.

Now sitting 16th on the table with 44 points, the Harmony Boys are fighting to preserve their NPFL status despite a three-point deduction earlier in the season. The club opted to stage this important match in Lagos to ensure a more stable and focused environment for the players during this crucial period.

However, Kwara United will be without suspended midfielder Toyeeb Gidado, who was sent off in their 2-2 draw against Niger Tornadoes. Ini Emmanuel has been drafted in as his replacement, while Saheed Olaniyi and Mustapha Salisu return to strengthen the squad.

Enyimba also arrive in Lagos with their own survival concerns. The nine-time NPFL champions have endured a difficult season and currently sit 11th with 46 points, still not completely safe from relegation danger despite their position on the table.

The Aba-based side will be confident, having defeated Kwara United 3-1 in the reverse fixture earlier in the season. However, the Harmony Boys are determined to respond and settle the score in this high-pressure rematch.

Kwara United head coach Ashifat Suleiman has reiterated his team’s determination to fight until the end, while captain AbdulAfeez Musa Olororo has called on fans and stakeholders to continue supporting the squad during the final stretch of the season.

All NPFL Matchday 37 fixtures will kick off simultaneously at 4pm on Sunday to ensure fairness across the league as the season reaches its climax. With survival on the line for both teams, an intense and closely contested battle is expected in Lagos.
