Kun Khalifat FC rescued a point in dramatic fashion after Ebuka Okoro converted a stoppage-time penalty to secure a 1-1 draw against Kano Pillars in their EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 12 encounter in Owerri.
Kano Pillars appeared set to claim a valuable away victory after former NPFL top scorer Sikiru Alimi put the visitors ahead in the 74th minute.
Alimi demonstrated his finishing ability with a superb strike from outside the penalty area, beating the Kun Khalifat goalkeeper to give Kano Pillars a deserved lead.
The goal put the hosts under pressure, forcing them to push forward in search of an equaliser as the match approached its conclusion.
Their persistence eventually paid off in the 90th minute when the referee awarded a penalty. Okoro stepped up and calmly converted from the spot to bring Kun Khalifat back into the contest.
The late equaliser sparked celebrations among the home supporters and denied Kano Pillars what would have been a significant away victory.
For Kun Khalifat, the result represented a hard-earned point after recovering from a second-half deficit. Kano Pillars, meanwhile, were left disappointed after surrendering their advantage at a crucial moment.
The draw underlined Kun Khalifat's resilience while exposing Kano Pillars' inability to hold on to a promising result away from home.
