Kun Khalifat Hold Enyimba to Draw as Aba Struggles Continue

Enyimba International FC endured another disappointing outing on Match Day 28 of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League as Kun Khalifat FC produced a determined performance to secure a 1–1 draw at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.

The match, played behind closed doors, highlighted ongoing vulnerabilities in Enyimba’s lineup, with the club still struggling to find stability under newly appointed coach Emmanuel Deutsch following the recent departure of Ayeni.

The People’s Elephant entered the game hoping to end a troubling run of form, yet Kun Khalifat quickly silenced the home crowd. James Ekebuike struck in the 38th minute, putting the visitors ahead and intensifying pressure on Aba’s nine-time league champions.

Drama unfolded late in the game when Kun Khalifat were reduced to ten players in the 80th minute after a red card. Seizing the numerical advantage, Enyimba mounted relentless attacks, and their persistence was rewarded five minutes later when Ekene Awazie scored to level the match at 1–1. Despite dominating the final minutes, the home side could not find a winner, allowing Kun Khalifat to claim a valuable point.

The result leaves Enyimba in 15th place on the NPFL table with 33 points from 28 matches, a record of eight wins, nine draws, and eleven losses. For a club with a rich history, the outcome underlines the challenges they face this season, with inconsistency and missed opportunities continuing to plague the team.

For Kun Khalifat, now 19th in the standings, the draw is a positive outcome and a morale boost in their fight to avoid relegation. For Enyimba, the challenge remains urgent: the People’s Elephant must regroup quickly if they are to recover from their slump and restore confidence in a turbulent campaign.
