2025/2026 NPFL: Kun Khalifat FC Reconciles with League, Returns to Action

After days of uncertainty, Kun Khalifat FC has officially reconciled with the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) and is set to resume competitive action. The Owerri-based club had previously withdrawn from the league, citing grievances over perceived unfair treatment and excessive sanctions by the League Management Board, raising concerns among supporters and casting doubt over the team’s future in the 2025/2026 season.

Following what both parties described as productive and sincere dialogue, the dispute has now been resolved, clearing the way for the club’s reinstatement. Michael Amaefula, the club’s Chief Executive Officer, confirmed the breakthrough and expressed optimism about the renewed relationship with the league.

“We are pleased that our discussions with the League Management Board were frank and constructive. It is time to put the disagreements behind us and return our focus to football,” Amaefula stated.
“We appreciate the League’s willingness to engage and address our concerns. We look forward to a healthier and more cooperative relationship moving forward.”

With the impasse settled, Kun Khalifat FC will immediately return to league action. The Imo-based club is scheduled to face Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan on Sunday, February 8, at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, in a highly anticipated Match Day 26 fixture.

The club has rallied its supporters, urging them to turn out in large numbers to energize the team as it embarks on what it calls a “fresh chapter” in the season. “This fixture is very important for us as we restart our journey,” the club said. “We urge our fans to come out in their numbers and provide the energy and support needed for a positive result.”

Kun Khalifat FC also thanked fans for their patience and unwavering loyalty during the period of absence, assuring them of renewed commitment and exciting football in the coming weeks. Club management remains confident that the backing of the Owerri faithful will be crucial in reigniting the team’s momentum as they return to NPFL action with renewed determination.
