2025/2026 NPFL Matchday 4 Review: Kun Khalifat FC Hands El-Kanemi Warriors FC First Defeat

Posted : 15 September 2025

El-Kanemi Warriors FC suffered their first defeat of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, falling 3-1 to Kun Khalifat FC in a highly anticipated Matchday 4 clash at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.

The match kicked off in a lively atmosphere, with Kun Khalifat supporters turning out in large numbers to back their team. The home side started brightly, creating two clear-cut chances early on but failing to convert. Their persistence paid off in the 34th minute when they broke the deadlock, going into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

El-Kanemi Warriors responded immediately after the break. Just one minute into the second half, in the 46th minute, Ebuka Okoro scored a stunning volley to level the scores at 1-1. However, the celebrations were short-lived, as Kun Khalifat FC regained the lead two minutes later, in the 48th minute, with a quick counterattack to make it 2-1.

Despite efforts from El-Kanemi Warriors to regain control, Kun Khalifat maintained the pressure. The introduction of Bright Etegrah strengthened El-Kanemi’s midfield, but it was not enough to halt the home team’s momentum. A swift counterattack caught the Warriors’ defense off-guard, and a third goal was slotted past goalkeeper Hakeem Otuyiga in the 56th minute to seal a 3-1 victory.

Both teams made tactical changes late in the game, but the scoreline remained unchanged through five minutes of added time.

El-Kanemi Warriors Head Coach Kabiru Dogo congratulated the home side, saying:

“It’s part of the game to win or to lose. I told my boys not to underrate them, but you can see how things changed. We’ll go back to the drawing board and make the necessary adjustments ahead of our next home match against Warri Wolves FC.”

Team captain Muktar Ismail echoed the coach’s sentiment, attributing the loss to fatigue:
“We gave a good performance, but I think fatigue played a major role in the outcome today.”

El-Kanemi Warriors FC will aim to bounce back in front of their home fans as they prepare to face Warri Wolves FC in Matchday 5 in Maiduguri. The Babagana Umara Zulum Boys currently sit 13th on the league table.
