Kun Khalifat FC ended Enyimba International FC’s unbeaten run with a 1–0 win at home, thanks to Ebuka Nwokorie’s 68th-minute free-kick.
Kun Khalifat FC head coach, Obinna Uzoho, has praised the passionate support of the home fans in Owerri after his side secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Enyimba International FC on Sunday at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.
The crucial Matchday 8 fixture of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) saw Ebuka Nwokorie emerge as the hero, with his sublime 68th-minute free-kick sealing the win for the “Pride of Imo” and ending Enyimba’s impressive unbeaten streak.
It was a memorable homecoming for Kun Khalifat FC, who had previously been forced to play their home fixtures away in Aba at the Enyimba International Stadium. Their return to their traditional home ground in Owerri for the Oriental Derby against the “People’s Elephant” came with the perfect script — a victory that delighted the jubilant home fans.
Coach Uzoho expressed his gratitude to the supporters, emphasizing the role their energy played in driving his players to victory.
“It feels good to be back home — there is truly no place like home. The massive support from the fans today played a huge part in our win. You could see how the boys were fired up, charging and pushing till the end. The encouragement from the stands boosted their morale. I sincerely thank Imolites for their incredible support,” Obinna said.
Kun Khalifat thought they had taken the lead in the first half, but the goal was ruled out by the referee for an alleged foul on Enyimba goalkeeper Ogunga. However, the breakthrough finally came in the second half when Nwokorie’s curling free-kick left the visitors’ goalkeeper helpless, ensuring all three points stayed in Owerri.
The victory lifted Kun Khalifat FC to 18th position on the NPFL table, while Enyimba remain in 3rd place despite the setback.
Looking ahead, Coach Uzoho is focused on maintaining the momentum as his side prepares for their next fixture away to Bayelsa United in Yenagoa.
“I’m going to Bayelsa to get points — that’s my aim,” the coach declared confidently.
The win marks a new chapter for Kun Khalifat FC as they look to build on their homecoming success and climb further up the NPFL standings.
