Kun Khalifat FC could face heavy sanctions after failing to honor their NPFL Match Day 24 fixture against El-Kanemi Warriors on Monday. As a result, the Maiduguri-based club was awarded a 3–0 walkover victory by match officials.
Earlier, Kun Khalifat had submitted a letter dated 28 January 2026 to the NPFL, requesting that the fixture be rescheduled due to financial constraints. The Owerri-based club followed up with another letter on 31 January 2026, stating that they had not received any response from the NPFL regarding their initial request.
According to Section B, Article 13 of the NPFL Framework, clubs are permitted to apply for fixture rescheduling provided the request is made at least 72 hours before the scheduled kick-off. The NPFL board is also required to consider the impact of such changes on the published fixture list and broadcast arrangements.
Kun Khalifat now awaits the NPFL’s decision on the matter, which will determine whether the club faces further penalties for failing to fulfill their fixture. The situation has sparked criticism from fans and observers, highlighting the ongoing financial struggles faced by the cash-strapped Owerri-based team.
