Kun Khalifat Captain Ameh Demands Response After Bendel Insurance Setback

Posted : 15 September 2026

Kun Khalifat FC captain Joseph Ameh has challenged his teammates to respond positively to their first defeat of the 2026/27 EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League season.

The newly promoted side suffered a 4-2 defeat to Bendel Insurance at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin on Matchday 3, bringing an abrupt end to their unbeaten start.

Kun Khalifat had kept clean sheets in their opening two matches, playing out goalless draws against Abia Warriors and Barau FC.

However, their defensive resilience deserted them in Benin as Bendel Insurance scored four times, although Kun Khalifat found the net twice to register their first goals of the campaign.

Ameh said the result should serve as a wake-up call rather than a reason for the team to lose confidence.

“Losing a game is not the end of the season. I think this loss will be motivation for me and my teammates,” he said.

The captain acknowledged the disappointment of conceding four goals but urged his teammates to accept the result, identify their shortcomings and improve before their next fixture.

“This isn’t the result we expected, but it is football. Anything can happen. We didn’t plan for this. I think we have to take it that way. We take it in good faith.

“We have to fix our lapses and work better in our next game.”

Ameh’s call for improvement is in line with the position of Head Coach Obinna Uzoho, who has vowed to return to the training ground and address the problems exposed by the defeat.

“I’m going back home to make sure we put everything right. You know, this season has just gotten started,” Uzoho said.

The coach also expressed his determination to improve on his own performance after a difficult previous campaign.

“I want to do more this season because last season was tough for me,” he added.

Despite the heavy defeat, Kun Khalifat have already shown signs of competitiveness in their opening three matches, recording two clean sheets and scoring their first two league goals of the season.

For Ameh, the priority now is to ensure that the setback in Benin does not derail the team’s progress.

With the EuroMatch NPFL season still in its early stages, the captain believes the manner in which Kun Khalifat respond to their first setback could ultimately prove more significant than the defeat itself.
