Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Kun Khalifa have officially confirmed the departure of their club captain, Chikamso Amaefula. The defensive midfielder is on the verge of completing a permanent transfer to league rivals Rivers United ahead of the upcoming domestic campaign.
The Owerri-based club announced that Amaefula is not making the switch to Port Harcourt alone. He will be joined at his new destination by teammate Blessed Iyamu; the influential midfielder also played a vital role in Kun Khalifa's top-flight squad last season.
In an official club statement, Kun Khalifa expressed deep appreciation to their departing skipper for his unwavering dedication to the team. The management described Amaefula as a highly disciplined, hardworking, and reliable leader who remained fully committed to the goals of the badge throughout his tenure.
The double acquisition is expected to significantly boost Rivers United as they restructure their squad for a title charge. The Port Harcourt-based powerhouse has been active in the transfer market to strengthen their central options following a mixed league campaign.
Kun Khalifa are now expected to intensify their scouting market efforts to find suitable replacements for the departing duo. A formal presentation ceremony and official announcement from the Rivers United camp are highly anticipated in the coming days once final personal terms are locked in.
