Kompany Praises Harry Kane’s Hunger

Posted : 17 October 2025

Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany hailed Harry Kane’s relentless hunger and leadership.

Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has praised Harry Kane’s hunger and determination ahead of the club’s highly anticipated Bundesliga clash with Borussia Dortmund on Saturday. The game, dubbed Der Klassiker, pits the league’s two unbeaten sides against each other in what promises to be one of the highlights of the season.

Bayern have been in stunning form, winning all 10 matches in all competitions, scoring 38 goals and conceding just eight. At the heart of their dominance is Kane, who has been in sensational form since joining from Tottenham Hotspur. The 32-year-old striker has already netted 18 goals and provided three assists in those 10 games, continuing his prolific streak with a brace for England in their 5–0 win over Latvia earlier in the week.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Kompany credited Kane’s long wait for major silverware as a key factor behind his drive to succeed.

While Bayern have cruised to the top of the Bundesliga table, Borussia Dortmund have quietly put together an impressive run of their own. They remain unbeaten in nine matches across all competitions, sitting four points behind Bayern in second place. Dortmund manager Niko Kovac, who previously won a domestic double with Bayern before being dismissed, urged his players to be bold at the Allianz Arena.

“It’ll be difficult if we play too cautiously,” Kovac said. “Just defending won’t work. We respect Bayern, but we have to take the initiative. If we play like we did last year in Munich, we’ll have a good chance — but we need to be brave.”

Traditionally, Der Klassiker has often marked the turning point in Dortmund’s title ambitions, with the club losing eight of their past ten visits to Munich. However, Dortmund are on their best run against Bayern since Jürgen Klopp’s era, having won one and drawn two of their last three meetings, including a 2–0 victory at the Allianz Arena in 2024.

Interestingly, Klopp — now involved with Red Bull’s global football operations — revealed in an interview from Mallorca that he “probably won’t have time” to watch the clash but admitted he would tune in if he could.

Elsewhere, one of the standout players to watch in the Bundesliga this weekend is Loic Badé of Bayer Leverkusen. The 25-year-old French defender, who joined from Sevilla in August, has quickly become a key figure in Xabi Alonso’s backline.

With Kane firing on all cylinders and Dortmund showing renewed confidence, all eyes will be on Munich this Saturday as Germany’s two biggest clubs battle for early supremacy in the Bundesliga.
