Jürgen Klopp finally recorded his first win as Germany coach as his side defeated Serbia 2-0 in Munich on Thursday, ending a difficult start to his tenure. The victory came in his third match in charge, following a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands and a 1-0 defeat by Greece.
Germany controlled the match from the opening stages and created several chances against Serbia. The hosts had 16 shots without reply in the first half before taking the lead in the 39th minute. Florian Wirtz's effort struck the post, and Tom Bischof reacted quickly to fire home the rebound for his first senior international goal.
The hosts continued to dominate after the break and doubled their advantage in the 61st minute. Wirtz received the ball from Maximilian Mittelstädt, created space inside the penalty area and calmly finished into the corner to complete the scoring.
Klopp made wholesale changes to the team that lost to Greece, handing international debuts to goalkeeper Jonas Urbig and forward Derry Scherhant. Vitaly Janelt also made his Germany debut, while Mika Baur became the 1,000th player to represent the national team when he came on as a substitute.
The result gives Klopp three points from his first Nations League victory and provides Germany with momentum ahead of their next match against Greece in Thessaloniki on Sunday.
Klopp praised the performance and said the combination of Germany's football and attitude should serve as the team's benchmark. Wirtz also received particular recognition after his goal and influential display.
