Khadija Shaw is expected to leave Manchester City Women this summer after negotiations over a new contract failed to reach an agreement. The development represents a significant setback for the newly crowned Women’s Super League champions, who had been in talks with the striker for several months.
The Jamaica international, who has been one of the most dominant forwards in English football, is understood to have attracted interest from several top clubs, including former WSL champions Chelsea Women. At 29, Shaw remains one of the league’s most prolific attackers and is currently the leading scorer in the Women’s Super League this season.
Manchester City head coach Andrée Jeglertz had publicly expressed hope in April that Shaw would sign an extension, with early discussions earlier in the year believed to have been positive. At that stage, there was optimism within the club that an agreement would eventually be reached.
However, negotiations have reportedly broken down due to differences over contract length, with City unable to fully meet the striker’s demands. While Shaw initially had no intention of leaving and even envisioned finishing her career at the club, the stalled talks have now opened the door for a potential transfer.
Since joining Manchester City, Shaw has been a consistent standout performer, finishing as the club’s top scorer for the past four seasons. She is also on course to claim a third consecutive WSL Golden Boot, having scored 19 goals in 21 league appearances with one match remaining.
With her future now uncertain, Shaw is expected to consider offers from other clubs during the summer transfer window, marking a major potential shift in the WSL landscape.
