The Flying Eagles’ camp has come alive with the arrival of key players ahead of the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.
Three foreign-based players—Arierhi Kparabo, Israel Ayuma, and Charles Agada—have joined the squad in Abuja as preparations intensify under coach Aliyu Zubairu.
Kparabo, 18, was Nigeria’s standout performer at the WAFU B U-20 Championship in Côte d’Ivoire, where he finished as top scorer and led the team to victory. He also impressed at the 2024 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Egypt. The former Beyond Limits FC striker is currently on loan at Mjøndalen IF from Lyn Oslo in Norway, where he has scored four goals in eight matches this season. His addition is considered a major boost to the squad.
Midfielder Israel Isaac Ayuma, who plays for Croatian club NK Istra 1961, has also joined the camp. A versatile player capable of operating both centrally and in advanced positions, Ayuma is a product of Mavlon FC in Lagos and is expected to bring balance and creativity to Nigeria’s midfield.
Ayuma’s club teammate, Charles Agada, has likewise reported for duty. The skillful forward, who can play as a centre forward or winger, rose to prominence in 2023 when he scored 10 goals to finish top scorer at the Viareggio Tournament in Italy. He later featured for Nigeria at the U-17 AFCON in Algeria, scoring in the 3-2 win over South Africa. Although injury kept him out of the 2024 WAFU B U-20 tournament, his return offers the Flying Eagles extra firepower.
The 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup kicks off on September 27 and runs until October 20 in Chile. Nigeria has been drawn in Group F alongside Colombia, Saudi Arabia, and Norway.
The Flying Eagles, twice runners-up at the tournament in 1989 and 2005, will be hoping to finally lift the elusive U-20 crown and add to Nigeria’s rich legacy at youth level, which already includes a record five FIFA U-17 World Cup titles.
