2025/2026 NWFL Matchday 5: Kazeem’s Long-Range Strike Secures Osun Babes’ First Away Win

Osun Babes FC secured their first away victory of the season with a hard-fought 1-0 win against Confluence Queens, courtesy of a superb long-range strike from defender Naimot Kazeem in the 62nd minute.

The Imole Queens began the match on the front foot, asserting early dominance and creating promising goal-scoring opportunities. Forward Sharon Shomuyiwa came close in the first half, but her effort lacked the power to trouble the Confluence Queens goalkeeper.

Osun Babes maintained their attacking pressure as the game progressed, with Bertha Okoro and Tabitha Terlumun both coming close to breaking the deadlock. Despite controlling possession and territory, the Osun-based side remained patient against a well-organised and resilient home defence.

The breakthrough came in the 62nd minute when Naimot Kazeem advanced from defence and unleashed a powerful long-range shot that found the back of the net, giving Osun Babes a deserved lead. Goalkeeper Elizabeth Boniface was also instrumental, producing crucial saves to keep Confluence Queens at bay and secure a valuable clean sheet.

After the match, Technical Advisor Bankole Olowookere praised his players’ discipline and character, describing the result as a reward for their hard work and belief. “This win means a lot to us as a team,” Olowookere said. “The players showed great character, discipline, and resilience, especially playing away from home. They followed the game plan and stayed focused until the goal came.”

He also highlighted the team’s defensive organisation and mental strength. “I am particularly proud of the defensive effort and the calmness of the players under pressure. Elizabeth made important saves, and Naimot showed great confidence with her strike. This is the kind of performance that builds belief in the team,” he added.

With the victory, Osun Babes FC move to sixth on the league table with seven points from five matches. The Imole Queens will now turn their attention to their next fixture, an away game against Nasarawa Amazons scheduled for next Wednesday.
