Katsina United FC have moved to strengthen their squad ahead of a crucial 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 24 encounter against Abia Warriors FC.
In preparation for the high-stakes fixture, the Changi Boys announced the arrival of two experienced players expected to add depth and quality to the team as they seek to revive their campaign.
However, the build-up to the match has taken an unexpected turn. The club confirmed in an official statement that their traditional home ground, the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina, will not be available for the fixture due to a political event scheduled at the venue—a development that has raised eyebrows among supporters.
As a result, the match has been relocated to the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, Kano, the same ground where Katsina United suffered a Matchday 23 defeat to Kano Pillars.
Despite the setback, the club remains optimistic following the announcement of two key additions to the squad.
Returning to the fold is a Nigeria-born, left-footed, versatile player who previously featured for Omani side Al Rustaq. His experience and familiarity with the league are expected to provide stability and options across multiple positions.
Also joining the team is Senegalese forward Boubakar Massaly, a pacey and direct attacker renowned for his aggressive runs and ball-carrying ability in the final third.
Both players are expected to be available for selection as Katsina United look to turn their fortunes around against a formidable Abia Warriors side.
For Umu Chineke, the trip to Kano presents another stern test. Despite earlier strong form this season, Abia Warriors have failed to win their last two matches, a run that has seen them slip from second place to fourth in the NPFL standings.
With both sides eager to bounce back, the Matchday 24 encounter promises to be a fiercely contested battle in Kano.
