Karim Benzema Leaves Al Hilal After Six Months

Karim Benzema has left Al Hilal after the Saudi Pro League club agreed to terminate the French striker’s contract by mutual consent, just six months after his arrival from Al Ittihad. The 38-year-old’s departure was officially confirmed by Al Hilal on Monday, with the club thanking him for his professionalism, commitment and leadership.

Benzema joined Al Hilal in February 2026 following his spell with Al Ittihad, where he moved after leaving Real Madrid in 2023. During his 14-year career at Madrid, he scored 354 goals in 648 appearances and won five Champions League titles, as well as the 2022 Ballon d’Or.

His short spell at Al Hilal ended shortly after the club strengthened its attack with the signing of England international Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa for a reported £51 million. Benzema made 16 appearances for Al Hilal, scoring 10 goals and providing five assists.

Benzema’s next move remains uncertain. While retirement has been discussed as a possibility, reports indicate that the former France international could continue his career elsewhere, with potential opportunities emerging outside Saudi Arabia.

The former France captain leaves Saudi football having won 25 trophies with Real Madrid and earned 97 international caps, scoring 37 goals for his country. His departure now opens the next chapter of a career that has already established him among the most decorated forwards of his generation.
