Enyimba chairman and former Super Eagles captain Nwankwo Kanu has encouraged players of Abia Angels FC to remain disciplined, believe in their abilities and work hard towards achieving their football ambitions.
Kanu delivered the motivational message on Wednesday, November 4, during an interaction with the women's team ahead of their training session.
The former African Footballer of the Year was also present for Enyimba's final training session before their EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 12 fixture against Ranchers Bees in Minna.
Despite his commitments with the men's team, Kanu took time to address the Abia Angels players, drawing from his experiences as a professional footballer to encourage the young women.
He stressed that discipline and self-belief were essential qualities for players who wanted to progress in their careers and achieve success at the highest level.
The players responded enthusiastically, recalling his popular motivational words, "Papilo, I know say you go make us proud." They also promised to make the club proud during the upcoming campaign.
Abia Angels head coach, Judith Benson, expressed appreciation to Kanu for taking time to encourage the players. She acknowledged the importance of his support and motivational message as the team prepares for another demanding season.
The Enyimba chairman also provided the players with financial support for breakfast and urged them to maintain their fitness and physical strength ahead of the challenges awaiting them.
Abia Angels enjoyed an encouraging 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership campaign, securing qualification for the Super Six competition for the first time in the club's history.
The Umuahia-based side eventually finished fourth in the championship playoffs with six points from five matches. Their campaign included a notable 1-0 victory over Rivers Angels, with Winner David scoring the decisive goal.

The team will now look to build on that achievement under the guidance of Benson, who is targeting further improvement in the new campaign.
Kanu has consistently used his position in Nigerian football to encourage emerging players, often emphasising the importance of discipline, determination and commitment. His latest interaction with Abia Angels reflects his continued interest in supporting young footballers and promoting the development of the women's game.
