Kanu Charges Enyimba Players to Silence Critics Against Doma United

FIFA Ambassador and Chairman of Enyimba FC, Kanu Nwankwo, has challenged the players to turn criticism surrounding the team into motivation when they face Doma United in Saturday’s Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter in Gombe.

The two-time African Player of the Year gave the charge after the team’s final intensive training session on Tuesday at the Enyimba Stadium, Aba.

Kanu commended the players for their performances in their recent friendly matches and the team’s showing in Minna, urging them to maintain their unity and commitment.

“I've watched the friendly games and I noticed that you are united; you attack and defend as a unit.

“Everyone of us is behind you. We are doing so because you performed well. If we did not, we would get negative reports. It depends on you to prove them wrong,” he said.

The Enyimba chairman also urged the players not to be distracted by comments questioning the quality of the current squad.

“This is a challenge to all of you. Don't look at people's comments and faces. People are saying we don't have a team.

“They said our fine performance in the friendly games is a fluke. That is a challenge for you,” he said.

Kanu assured the players of the management’s continued support, saying he would do everything within his capacity to keep them motivated and focused.

“I am here to encourage you and to tell you that we are behind you no matter what people are saying outside.

“I will do whatever I can to make you happy, focused and deliver,” he promised.

Responding on behalf of the players, Stanley Dimgba expressed appreciation to Kanu for his support, describing his presence as a major morale booster for the squad.

“I know we will make you proud. I know we will go far. I believe we will never come back empty-handed from Gombe,” Dimgba said amid applause from his teammates.

The encounter against Doma United will be Enyimba’s second Euromatch NPFL fixture of the 2026/27 season.

The People’s Elephant will be hoping to build on their early-season performances with a positive result in Gombe.
