Kano Pillars’ Winless Run Extends to Five After Bayelsa United Stalemate

Posted : 10 November 2025

Kano Pillars’ struggles in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) continued on Matchday 12, as they were held to a goalless draw by Bayelsa United at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina, their adopted home ground.

The result means the former NPFL champions have now gone five matches without a win, recording three draws and two defeats in that period. Their last victory came over a month ago, a worrying trend that has plunged the club into the relegation zone.

With just two wins from 12 matches, Kano Pillars currently sit bottom of the NPFL table (20th), a position that leaves newly appointed coach Mohammed Babaganaru under increasing pressure to revive the team’s form.

Nwankwe Praises Bayelsa United’s Fighting Spirit

Following the draw, Chairman of Bayelsa United, Dr. Tarilaye Nwankwe, commended his players and technical crew for their resilient display against the northern giants.

He described the away point as a morale booster, applauding the team’s discipline and determination throughout the encounter.

“I’m very pleased with the way our players performed away from home,” Nwankwe said after the match. “If we can maintain this level of commitment, we’ll definitely finish in a respectable position on the table.”

Nwankwe noted that the team’s recent performances reflect strong spirit and unity, urging them not to relent until they achieve their season’s target.

“Our performance away from home has shown that Bayelsa United can compete with any team in the league. We must keep pushing until we meet our goals,” he added.

Commendation for State Support

The Bayelsa United chairman also praised the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Sports Development, Daniel Igali, for his continuous support and presence with the team in Katsina.

He further appreciated the state government for ensuring that the team travels by air for long-distance away fixtures, a gesture he described as vital to the players’ comfort and readiness.

“This feat wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts and commitment of the Bayelsa State Government and our supporters. Their backing keeps the team motivated to perform better,” Nwankwe noted.
