Kano Pillars Turn to Ogunmodede to Revive Fortunes Ahead of New NPFL Season

Posted : 04 July 2026

Kano Pillars have made a major statement ahead of the 2026/2027 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season by appointing Daniel Ogunmodede as the club's new Technical Adviser.

The four-time NPFL champions confirmed the appointment through their Media Director, Isma'eel Tangalashi, who described the move as a crucial step in the club's rebuilding process following a disappointing 2025/2026 campaign.

Ogunmodede joins Sai Masu Gida after guiding Remo Stars to the NPFL title, ending the Ikenne-based club's remarkable league-winning campaign before opting for a fresh challenge in Kano.

The highly rated tactician, popularly known as "Ijaball," also serves as an assistant coach of the Super Eagles under head coach Eric Chelle, bringing valuable top-level experience to the Pyramid City club.

According to the club, his appointment forms part of an extensive restructuring aimed at strengthening the technical department and building a squad capable of challenging for honours in both domestic and continental competitions.

Ogunmodede replaces Muhammad Babaganaru, who leaves after overseeing a difficult season in which Kano Pillars finished 15th on the NPFL table with 48 points from 38 matches, narrowly avoiding the relegation battle.

Renowned for his modern tactical philosophy, emphasis on youth development, and attacking style of play, Ogunmodede is expected to oversee a significant squad overhaul as Kano Pillars seek to return to the summit of Nigerian football.

One of the most successful clubs in the country, Kano Pillars have won the NPFL title four times—in 2007/08, 2012, 2013, and 2014—but have struggled to replicate that dominance in recent seasons.

The management of the Kano football outfit will be hoping Ogunmodede's arrival marks the beginning of a new era as the club targets a return to title contention in the 2026/2027 campaign.

With a proven track record of success and a reputation for developing competitive teams, Ogunmodede will be expected to lead Kano Pillars back into contention as preparations for the new NPFL season gather pace.
