2025/2026 NPFL Matchday 19: Kano Pillars Thrash Nasarawa United 3-0

Posted : 30 December 2025

Kano Pillars marked their return to the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, Kano, in emphatic fashion by defeating Nasarawa United FC 3-0 during Matchday 19 of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). The result represented a harsh blow for the Solid Miners, who suffered their worst defeat of the campaign.

Nasarawa United entered the fixture with hopes of bouncing back after a goalless home draw against Barau FC five days earlier. However, they were quickly undone by the hosts’ attacking prowess.

An early substitution saw goalkeeper Ameh Godwin replace Olughu Chinemerem following an injury and save a penalty awarded to Rabiu Ali in the 20th minute after Mustapha Jibrin was fouled inside the box by left-back Mubarak Hussaini.

Just four minutes later, Kano Pillars took the lead through Mustapha Umar. Despite Anas Yusuf’s attempts to breach the Pillars’ defence, the home side maintained their advantage heading into halftime.

In the second half, Nasarawa United’s Ekeson Okorie threatened the goal but was consistently denied by the solid Pillars defence. Seventeen minutes after the restart, Jude Okorie doubled the lead for Kano Pillars. The home side sealed the win with a third goal from Mustapha Jibrin, leaving the final score at 3-0.

The defeat dropped Nasarawa United to fourth place on the league table with 32 points, five points behind leaders Rivers United. With the NPFL currently on a mid-season break, the Solid Miners will use the pause to regroup and prepare for the second half of the season, beginning with a double-home fixture against Kano Pillars on January 7 and Niger Tornadoes on January 12, 2026.

Speaking after the match, Nasarawa United coach Mangut Mbwas acknowledged the setback but remained optimistic: “This is not the team we know, and we are aware of that. We will regroup, refocus, and come back fighting when the league resumes. We have had a great run, and this setback won't deter us. We will return with a vengeance and show everyone what we are capable of.”
