It was a tough Northern derby for Kano Pillars FC in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 2 as visiting Wikki Tourists of Bauchi forced a 1-1 stalemate at Kofar Mata.
Fans at the Sani Abacha Stadium were left distraught as their beloved team, Sai Masu Gida, struggled to break through the resolute defensive walls of the Baby Elephants.
It was a fiercely contested affair, with league returnees Wikki Tourists refusing to yield to their hosts, Kano Pillars.
Wikki Tourists broke the deadlock in the 12th minute when Ahmed Lamido scored, but Mustapha Umar restored parity just before halftime.
The second half featured end-to-end action and several near misses from both sides, but neither team could find the back of the net.
Wikki Tourists coach Abdul Makaiba praised his team’s resilience in containing Kano Pillars’ forwards, led by the club chairman, Ahmed Musa.
"We did well in the match. Securing a draw on a ground such as Kano is a tough call.
"We already knew what we wanted from the game. I know Kano Pillars very well, and thank God we got our tactics right," he said.
Kano Pillars remain winless after the first two matches of the 2025/2026 NPFL season, following a 0-1 defeat away to Abia Warriors FC and the home draw against Wikki Tourists of Bauchi.
