As the Nigerian Premier Football League 2023/2024 season enters its 27th round, the four-time champions, under the leadership of their technical adviser, Coach Audu Maikaba, find themselves in a critical situation. The team has only won one match and drawn twice out of the six matches they have played in the second half of the season, both at home and away.

Kano Pillars' first win since round 22 came when they beat Sports Lagos one-nil at Sani Abacha in round 27.

There is no doubt that the winning streak of Kano Pillars is faltering under the watchful eye of one of the highest-paid coaches in Kano and the Northern State this season.

Coach Maikaba, who earns about 1.5 million as his monthly salary, yet there is no consistency in the team, which is currently in the sixth position with 41 points in 27 matches. This leaves millions of Pillars fans within and outside Kano State wondering and hoping to see the Sai Masu Gida team finish the season as champions or at least in the third position but they could end up nowhere to be found.

Kano, being one of the most sports-loving states, is spending a huge amount of money on player salaries to ensure that the team continues to maintain its position. This means that authorities in Kano should find out the real reason why a team like Kano Pillars FC would play six matches and only win one.

Since February 25, when Kano Pillars won 5-1 over Sunshine Stars at Sani Abacha Stadium, the Maikaba team has not won a single match until their match with Sporting Lagos.

The matches that Pillars lost in the second round of NPFL matches from round 22 are:

- The first loss was on February 28, when Kano Pillars were defeated 3-2 by Katsina United in round 22 at the Mohammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina State.
- The second loss was in the round-of-23 match, where Abia Warriors defeated Kano Pillars FC by one goal to nil at their home ground, Sani Abacha Stadium Kofar Mata in the ancient city of Kano.
- On March 4, 2024, Pillars held Rivers United 1-1 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
- Also, on March 13, Enugu Rangers International held Kano Pillars to a 1-1 draw in Kano.
- In round 26 on the 17th of this month, Bayelsa United defeated Kano Pillars by 2-1.

Due to the lack of consistency of the Pillars coach in playing 27 matches home and away, but the team did not have a first eleven to start with, some fans are showing their displeasure by boycotting the Pillars match against Sporting Lagos. More than half of Sani Abacha Stadium is empty because they are not satisfied with the performance of the team.

In the next match, Enyimba International of Aba will host Kano Pillars in round 28 of the Nigerian Premier League 2023-2024 season.
