Kano Pillars defeated Kwara United 1–0 in a rescheduled NPFL Matchday 6 fixture, deepening the Harmony Boys’ struggles.
Kano Pillars FC secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over struggling Kwara United FC in their rescheduled 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 6 fixture played on Wednesday at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata.
The victory added to the mounting woes of the Harmony Boys, who were recently eliminated from the 2025/2026 CAF Confederation Cup by Ghanaian side Asante Kotoko. That setback was followed by a home defeat to Abia Warriors, which led to the dismissal of their Technical Adviser, Tunde Sanni.
Led by interim coach Ashifat Suleiman, Kwara United once again struggled to find form against Sai Masu Gida. The hosts took the lead through veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali, whose first-half strike proved decisive.
In his post-match reaction, Coach Suleiman attributed the narrow defeat to defensive lapses but expressed optimism about the team’s ability to recover in upcoming matches.
“Our plan here was to get maximum points, but things didn’t work out in our favour. The league is a marathon, and we’ll bounce back stronger,” he said.
The loss saw Kwara United drop to 13th position on the NPFL table with eight points from seven matches.
The Ilorin-based side will aim to redeem themselves when they face Wikki Tourist at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi, this weekend.
