Harry Kane described Luis Diaz’s late strike as a “moment of magic” after Bayern Munich edged past Real Madrid in a dramatic Champions League quarter-final clash on Wednesday. The victory sent Bayern into the semifinals after a thrilling encounter decided in the closing stages.
Despite holding a 2-1 advantage from the first leg, Bayern were pushed to the limit as Real Madrid produced another strong European display. The Spanish side went behind three times in the match but repeatedly fought back, levelling the tie at 4-4 on aggregate and keeping the contest alive deep into the second half.
The turning point came in the 89th minute when Diaz scored to give Bayern the lead on aggregate once again. Michael Olise then added a stoppage-time goal to seal a 4-3 win on the night and a 6-4 aggregate triumph, setting up a semifinal showdown with Paris Saint-Germain.
Speaking after the match, Kane said Bayern always believed they could finish strongly. He highlighted the team’s patience and physical strength in the closing stages, noting that the decisive moments came when Madrid began to tire. Kane also praised the quality of both Diaz and Olise for delivering when it mattered most.
The England captain also reflected on his first-half goal, which saw him reach 50 goals in all competitions for the season, crediting his teammates for their support. Bayern coach Vincent Kompany, meanwhile, said the team’s resilience showed their growing belief, insisting they are ready for the challenge of facing PSG next.
