Kada Warriors Face 15-Team Test as NFF President Cup Returns

Posted : 08 October 2026

Defending champions Kada Warriors FC will face 15 other clubs when the NFF President Cup Pre-Season Tournament enters its third edition in Zaria, Kaduna State.

The eight-day competition, scheduled for Oct. 10 to 18, is expected to provide an important platform for clubs to fine-tune their squads ahead of the new league season.

Six teams from the Nigerian National League (NNL) will headline the 16-team field, with Wikki Tourists FC, Bichi First FC, Kebbi United FC, Daurama FC, Yobe Desert FC and Kada Warriors FC representing the second-tier league.

Kada Warriors will return to defend the title they won in the previous edition staged in Kano State, but they face a tougher challenge with five other NNL clubs joining the field.

The remaining 10 teams will be drawn from the Nationwide League One (NLO) and other notable clubs, providing a mixture of established players and emerging talents.

The 16 teams will be divided into four groups of four, setting up a competitive group-stage battle before the tournament moves into its decisive phase.

Organised under the leadership of Chairman Hon. Alhassan Magaji, the tournament has continued to provide clubs with an opportunity to assess their squads, test new players and build tactical cohesion before the commencement of their respective league campaigns.

For the participating NNL sides, the tournament will offer an opportunity to measure their readiness against teams from different levels of the domestic football pyramid.

It will equally provide NLO clubs and emerging players with a platform to attract attention ahead of the new season.

The organisers are expected to release the complete fixtures and competition format on Thursday, Oct. 8, ahead of the opening matches.

With the tournament returning to Kaduna State, attention will be on whether Kada Warriors can retain their crown or another contender will emerge from the 16-team field.

The NFF President Cup Pre-Season Tournament is scheduled to run from Saturday, Oct. 10 to Sunday, Oct. 18 in Zaria.
