Juventus Appoint Giovanni Carnevali as CEO After Damien Comolli Exit

Posted : 12 June 2026

Juventus have appointed Giovanni Carnevali as their new chief executive officer and general manager following the departure of Damien Comolli after just one season in charge.

The decision was confirmed after a board meeting on Friday, with the club announcing that Comolli, who previously held senior roles at Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and Toulouse, had left by mutual consent. His exit comes after a turbulent campaign marked by internal disagreements and underwhelming results on the pitch.

Replacing him is 65-year-old Carnevali, who arrives from Sassuolo, where he played a central role in the club’s rise and stability in Serie A. Since taking charge in 2014, he has been widely credited for smart recruitment, strong player development, and effective transfer trading that helped establish Sassuolo as a consistent top-flight side despite their smaller stature.

Carnevali expressed pride at joining Juventus, describing the opportunity as a major honour. He added that he aims to work closely with all departments to restore the club’s status as a leading force in both Italian and European football.

Comolli’s departure follows reported tensions over transfer policy and sporting direction, particularly involving head coach Luciano Spalletti. Although Spalletti had his contract extended until 2028 in April, Juventus endured a difficult season that fell short of expectations.

The Turin club finished sixth in Serie A, missing out on Champions League qualification and instead securing a place in the Europa League. Their European struggles also continued, as they were eliminated from last season’s Champions League play-offs by Galatasaray in a 7-5 aggregate defeat.

Juventus had originally brought in Comolli following the dismissal of Igor Tudor in October, tasking him with stabilising the squad and securing a return to Europe’s elite competition. However, inconsistent performances and strategic disagreements ultimately led to a swift end to his tenure.
