Jurgen Klopp Renews Criticism of Premier League's Early Kick-Offs

Posted : 03 May 2024

Jurgen Klopp's disdain for the Premier League's early Saturday kick-off at 12:30pm has been an ongoing topic, with the Liverpool manager famously referring to it as the "breakfast" slot back in 2018. During a recent news conference, Klopp once again criticized the scheduling, labeling it as "absolutely insane" and even humorously suggesting involvement from Amnesty International, imagining the reaction to the mere mention of "Liverpool 12:30".

Expressing his frustration further, Klopp took aim at broadcaster TNT, which holds the Saturday 12:30 slot, adding a touch of sarcasm by referring to them as "our favourite TV channel which I will definitely not watch again". Klopp's remarks were laced with a sense of resignation, offering what he called "a little advice from an old man on the way out", highlighting the taxing fixture congestion faced by Liverpool.

The scheduling controversy is not confined to Klopp alone; Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk voiced similar grievances after a defeat to Everton in April, lamenting the subsequent early kick-off against West Ham. While some, like Wayne Rooney, have urged players to "get on with it", the consistent frustration expressed by Klopp and his team suggests a broader concern about what they perceive as unfair treatment in fixture scheduling.
