Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has expressed confidence that Florian Wirtz will soon find his rhythm at Liverpool despite a subdued beginning to his Premier League career.
Wirtz, who made a high-profile €125 million move from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, has yet to make a major individual impact, even as Liverpool opened the season with three straight victories.
Speaking in Bratislava ahead of Germany’s World Cup qualifier against Slovakia on Thursday, Nagelsmann described the 22-year-old midfielder as “a key player” for the national team. He acknowledged that Wirtz had not yet been “incredibly dominant” but stressed that adaptation takes time.
“You have to look at the whole squad around him. Liverpool have spent heavily to build a top team, and you won’t always stand out as an individual,” Nagelsmann explained. “The structure is what matters, and it’s working well. It’s normal that he needs time in a new culture, new league and new environment. But he will score, he will assist, and he’ll play great games for Liverpool.”
The Premier League’s financial power was further highlighted this summer, with several Bundesliga stars making high-value moves to England. Four of the five most expensive transfers came from Germany.
Germany captain Joshua Kimmich admitted that even players in the Bundesliga are left astonished by the transfer dynamics. “To be honest, we can’t fully grasp it either, and it’s out of our control. But that’s the market,” Kimmich said. “In England, there are huge financial resources from both ownership and TV deals. It seems they can pull out the money very easily.”
