Jude Bellingham receives Golden Boy Award, credits Wayne Rooney as biggest influence

Jude Bellingham expressed his gratitude and described winning the Golden Boy award for 2023 as a significant honor during a ceremony in Turin. The Real Madrid midfielder, who also won the Kopa Trophy at the Ballon d’Or ceremony, acknowledged Wayne Rooney as his "biggest influence" growing up.

 

Bellingham emphasized the importance of making his team and country the best in the world, a goal he believes is achieved by helping teams win. The 20-year-old, who was named Bundesliga Player of the Season for 2022-23 with Borussia Dortmund, has made a sensational start at Real Madrid, scoring 15 goals in 17 games across all competitions.

Bellingham expressed his admiration for Rooney's playing style and tenacity, citing the former England and Manchester United captain as a major influence. The young midfielder acknowledged that while Rooney was his biggest influence, he has learned from numerous players, incorporating various elements into his own game.
