Algerian Ligue 1 outfit JS Saoura have pulled off one of the most eye-catching transfers of the NPFL mid-season window by securing the services of Nigeria’s in-form striker, Anas Yusuf.
The 22-year-old forward, who has consistently troubled defences in the Nigeria Premier Football League, completed his move after successfully passing his medicals, with Saoura confirming the deal on their official media platforms on Saturday.
Yusuf’s departure from Nasarawa United had sparked speculation in recent weeks, particularly after the club remained silent amid reports linking the prolific striker with moves to North Africa, including Tunisia. The uncertainty has now been resolved with his switch to Algeria’s top flight.
The transfer represents a significant milestone in Yusuf’s rapidly rising career, built on consistent performances and an outstanding eye for goal in the NPFL.
Last season, he emerged as the league’s top scorer with 18 goals, a feat that placed him firmly on the radar of clubs outside Nigeria. Before leaving, he had already netted seven goals in the ongoing campaign — just one shy of the current top scorer, Chidozie Iwundu.
Yusuf’s journey to prominence has been one of steady growth. He began his professional career with Nasarawa United in the 2017/18 season after joining on a free transfer. A stint with Wikki Tourists during the 2021/22 season further sharpened his attacking instincts before he returned to Nasarawa United, where he evolved into one of the league’s most dependable finishers.
One of the defining moments of his NPFL career came when he made history by scoring a hat-trick in a rare defeat for his team — a feat not recorded in the league for over a decade.
With his move to JS Saoura, Yusuf now steps into a new chapter, aiming to replicate his Nigerian league heroics in Algerian football and prove that his goal-scoring prowess can shine on a broader continental stage.
