Jos Set for Eight-Team NNL Pre-Season Tournament Ahead of New Season

Jos is set to become the centre of pre-season football activity as eight clubs converge on the Plateau State capital for a tournament ahead of the 2026/2027 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.

The competition, scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Sept. 30, is being organised by the Plateau State Government in conjunction with the NNL.

Host Mighty Jets International FC will be joined by Lobi Stars of Makurdi, Gombe United, El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri and four other clubs in the preparatory tournament.

The participating teams are completed by Golba FC and Globa Peace FC, both of Jos, Yobe Desert State FC of Damaturu and Wikki Tourists of Bauchi.

According to Danlami Alanama, Chief Operating Officer of the NNL, the eight teams will be divided into two groups for the competition.

Matches in each group will be played in a round-robin format, with the winners of the two groups progressing to the final.

The tournament is expected to provide the participating clubs with an opportunity to assess their squads, sharpen their match fitness and fine-tune preparations before the commencement of the new NNL campaign.

The NNL said the group draw would be conducted in Jos at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, with the venue to be communicated subsequently.

With clubs from different parts of the country expected to converge on Jos, the tournament will also provide an early competitive test for teams seeking to build momentum ahead of the 2026/2027 season.
