Jordan Henderson’s Leadership Key to Ajax’s Eredivisie Title Push

If Ajax Amsterdam clinch the Eredivisie title this season, captain Jordan Henderson will undoubtedly be at the center of the accolades for his pivotal role in leading the team back to the top of Dutch football. After two challenging seasons, Ajax is now four points ahead of defending champions PSV Eindhoven with three games remaining, putting them in a strong position to secure their 29th league title.

 

Ajax's journey to the title has been significantly boosted by Henderson's leadership. A win against NEC Nijmegen at home and a victory at FC Groningen next week would seal the championship. The 34-year-old midfielder has had a standout season, serving as both captain and a key player, which earned him a recall to the England national team.

Henderson’s impact has been particularly noticeable since his arrival at Ajax in February last year, when the club was at a low point, struggling near the bottom of the league. His early months were marred by injury and underwhelming performances, leading to criticism.

 

 However, with the arrival of Farioli as coach at the start of this season, Henderson was shifted to a defensive midfield role. The tactical change has proved to be a turning point, as Ajax’s defense has improved significantly, boasting the league's best defensive record this season.
