Jobe Bellingham's Yellow Card in Club World Cup Clash Rules Him Out

Posted : 02 July 2025

Jobe Bellingham’s hopes of facing his brother Jude in the upcoming Club World Cup quarterfinal were dashed after he was suspended for the match. The 19-year-old midfielder received his second yellow card of the tournament during Borussia Dortmund's 2-1 victory over Monterrey on Tuesday.

The booking came in the 28th minute for a foul on Nelson Deossa, which means he will miss Dortmund's highly anticipated clash with Real Madrid.

His first yellow card had been in Dortmund's 1-0 group stage win over Ulsan HD, also in the 28th minute. Dortmund manager Niko Kovac expressed his disappointment on behalf of the young midfielder, noting that Jobe seemed unaware that a second yellow card in different matches would lead to suspension.

Kovac also reassured fans that there would be more opportunities for the brothers to meet on the pitch, potentially in the Champions League in the future.

To avoid any further bookings, Kovac had substituted Jobe in the 55th minute, having already received a yellow card. Kovac stressed that the substitution was made to protect Jobe from the risk of a red card due to the intense nature of the match.

With Jobe sidelined, someone else will take his place in the quarterfinal, where Dortmund will face Jude's Real Madrid on Saturday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
