England U18 midfielder Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba, who has Nigerian roots, delivered a standout performance on Monday night, helping Aston Villa secure a 3-1 comeback win over Manchester City in the FA Youth Cup final at Villa Park.
The match started in disappointing fashion for Villa, with Manchester City taking the lead less than two minutes in. A poor clearance from goalkeeper Sam Proctor allowed Matty Warhurst to find the net and put the visitors ahead early.
However, Aston Villa responded almost instantly. Just 90 seconds later, TJ Carroll capitalized on a near-post corner delivered by Jimoh-Aloba, tapping into an empty net to bring the game level in dramatic fashion.
As the match progressed, Villa grew in confidence and took the lead just after the 30-minute mark. Cole Brannigan produced a moment of brilliance, curling a left-footed shot with the outside of his boot into the net to make it 2-1.
In the second half, Aston Villa tightened their grip on the game. In the 65th minute, Jimoh-Aloba made his mark once again, firing a powerful shot into the near post that beat the goalkeeper and gave his team a comfortable two-goal cushion.
This victory marked Aston Villa’s fifth FA Youth Cup title, adding to previous triumphs in 1972, 1980, 2002, and 2021. The win also underscores the strength of the club’s academy and its ability to produce top-level young talent.
Jimoh-Aloba’s progress has been evident throughout the season, earning him twelve call-ups to the senior squad. He made appearances in both the Premier League and FA Cup, and ended the campaign with ten goals across Villa’s youth teams, highlighting his growing influence and potential.
