Jennifer Cudjoe Backs Ghana to Deliver Against Mali at WAFCON

Ghana midfielder Jennifer Cudjoe has expressed confidence that the Black Queens will rise to the occasion when they face Mali in their decisive Group D fixture at the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Queens will take on Mali at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca on Thursday, knowing that a victory will secure a place in the quarter-finals of the tournament. The match is crucial for Ghana after a mixed start to their campaign in Morocco.

Ghana began the competition with a convincing 2-0 victory over tournament debutants Cape Verde before suffering a narrow defeat to Cameroon in their second group match. The result left the Black Queens needing a positive outcome against Mali to keep their qualification hopes alive.

Despite the pressure surrounding the encounter, Cudjoe remains optimistic about the team's chances. The experienced midfielder said the players are determined to justify the confidence of their supporters and continue their journey in the competition.

"We want to be the best. We want to get to the World Cup and also get to the final," Cudjoe said while speaking to the media ahead of Thursday's fixture.

She also acknowledged the importance of the support from Ghanaian fans and promised that the team would respond with a committed performance.

"It is always good to hear the feedback from the fans. We are going to show up and prove to them that we are here, and they should trust us," she added.

A victory over Mali would not only send Ghana into the last eight but also keep alive their ambition of qualifying for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup. The stakes are high, as only the four semi-finalists at the 2026 WAFCON will earn automatic qualification for the global tournament.

The Black Queens have not featured at the FIFA Women's World Cup since the 2007 edition. They have missed the last four tournaments and are eager to end that long absence by reaching the semi-finals in Morocco.

Cudjoe and her teammates will be looking to produce one of their strongest performances of the tournament against Mali. A positive result would move Ghana a step closer to both the WAFCON title and a long-awaited return to the biggest stage in women's football.
