Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group have agreed to sell a significant minority stake in the Premier League club to 1892 Holdings, a consortium led by businessman Amit Bhatia and featuring Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. The stake is reported to be around 30%, valuing Liverpool at more than £5 billion.
FSG will remain Liverpool's majority owner and retain operational control following the investment. Bezos, who is participating through the K5 Sports fund, is not expected to take a seat on the club's board, while Bhatia is set to become vice-chairman.
The expanded Liverpool board is expected to include Bhatia, Bryan Baum of K5 Sports and Elaine Saverin. Bhatia previously had an 18-year association with Queens Park Rangers and brings extensive experience from English football's boardrooms to his new role at Anfield.
FSG president Mike Gordon said the investment reflects a shared long-term vision between the existing owners and the new consortium. The agreement is intended to support Liverpool's continued development while maintaining the ownership structure and strategy established by FSG.
The deal represents Bezos' first major investment in a football club and adds significant financial and commercial expertise to Liverpool's ownership group. Saverin, meanwhile, joins the consortium alongside the Amazon founder as another prominent technology entrepreneur.
Bhatia said the consortium was proud to invest in Liverpool and expressed admiration for FSG's stewardship of the club. He added that the group intends to support Liverpool's continued success over the long term.
