The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Imo State Chapter, has announced Emmanuela James as the Imo SWAN/Heartland Queens Player of the Month for December 2025, following a voting exercise conducted by its members.
James emerged the winner after sweeping the votes, supervised by the Chairman of the Association, Cosmos Chukwuemeka, defeating two of her teammates: goalkeeper Christiana Obia and Ebubechi Ozuruigbo.
The Secretary of Imo SWAN, Tunde Liadi, expressed delight that James’ outstanding contributions to Heartland Queens, both on and off the pitch, have been duly recognised. The award reflects the collective assessment of sports journalists in the state, impressed by her influence and consistency during the period under review.
James’ selection as Player of the Month was anchored on her impressive performances in December, where she was the team’s highest goal scorer with two goals and two assists. She delivered a man-of-the-match display against Naija Ratels, scoring the opening goal, assisting the equaliser that earned Heartland Queens a vital point in Abuja, and creating several clear-cut chances.
She also played a decisive role in the victory over Ekiti Queens, scoring the winning goal, while her creativity remained evident against Edo Queens, where she initiated most of the team’s attacking moves.
Reacting to the award, Imo SWAN Chairman Cosmos Chukwuemeka commended James for her consistency and overall impact on the team. He noted that her work rate, creativity, and commitment set her apart from other nominees, describing the award as a deserving reward for dedication and hard work.
Chukwuemeka further encouraged the attacker to sustain her momentum as the league resumes after the Yuletide break, urging her to remain focused and continue contributing positively to Heartland Queens’ progress. He also reaffirmed Imo SWAN’s commitment to recognising excellence and encouraging professionalism in women’s football across the state.
James, along with the inaugural winner of the award, Chizoba Johnson, will be presented with their plaques at Heartland Queens’ next home game.
