The Young Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire emerged champions of the 2025 WAFU B U20 Boys Tournament after defeating Nigeria’s Flying Eagles 1-0 in a tense final held in Accra, Ghana.
The Ivorians completed the tournament with a perfect record, winning all five matches. Their disciplined and committed performances throughout the campaign left little doubt about their supremacy in the competition.
Their journey to the title began with a 2-1 win over Burkina Faso, followed by narrow victories against Niger Republic (1-0) and Togo (2-0) in the group stage. In the semi-finals, they came from behind to beat hosts Ghana 2-1, showcasing both resilience and quality.
In Wednesday’s final, seven-time African champions Nigeria proved to be a tougher challenge. The tightly contested match appeared headed for extra time until a crucial mistake in added time. Nigerian goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt misjudged a free-kick delivery and dropped the ball, allowing Côte d’Ivoire’s Zakaria Tindano to react quickly and tap in the only goal of the match.
With the win, Côte d’Ivoire’s Young Elephants not only claimed the regional title but also made a strong statement ahead of the upcoming continental youth competitions.
