Ivory Coast Fans Miss World Cup Trip After US Visa Denials

Posted : 11 June 2026

A large group of Ivory Coast supporters will be absent from the 2026 FIFA World Cup after reportedly being denied visas to enter the United States, according to officials representing the country’s organised fan base.

The issue adds to a series of immigration-related controversies that have emerged in the lead-up to the tournament, which is being co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Several individuals connected to the competition, including officials and referees, have already encountered entry difficulties involving US immigration authorities.

Julien Kouadio Adonis, president of the National Committee of Elephants Supporters (CNSE), said the organisation had been forced to cancel plans for supporters to travel from Ivory Coast to attend the tournament. The committee, which operates under the country’s Ministry of Sport, traditionally coordinates travel and support activities for fans following the national team abroad.

Kouadio expressed disappointment over the situation, stating that many supporters had hoped to travel and cheer on the national team during the tournament. He described the inability of fans to attend as a significant blow, arguing that supporting the team at major international events is an important responsibility for the country's football community.

Earlier this year, the supporters' organisation had anticipated that hundreds of fans would make the journey to North America for the competition. However, those plans have now largely collapsed due to visa complications.

Despite the restrictions, a small number of CNSE representatives have reportedly received permission to travel. Their role will be to assist and coordinate with Ivorian supporters already living in the United States who plan to attend matches.

Ivory Coast are scheduled to play two of their group-stage fixtures in Philadelphia, where they will face Ecuador and Curaçao, while their other match will take place in Toronto against Germany.

The supporters' committee estimates that more than 1,000 Ivorian fans based in North America are expected to attend the team's matches, helping provide some level of backing despite the absence of many supporters from home.
