FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Review: Italy Crush Nigeria 4-0 to End Flamingos’ Campaign

Posted : 29 October 2025
Nigeria’s Flamingos crashed out of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup after a 4-0 defeat to a dominant Italian side.

Italy’s U-17 women’s team delivered a ruthless performance to eliminate Nigeria’s Flamingos from the ongoing FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, securing a commanding 4-0 victory over the 2022 bronze medallists.

The result marked Italy’s fourth consecutive win in the tournament, maintaining their perfect record as they advanced to the quarter-finals in dominant fashion.

Nigeria entered the game eager to prove that their qualification for the Round of 16 was no accident. They had an early chance to take the lead in the 24th minute when captain Shakirat Moshood unleashed a powerful shot from the left side of the penalty area, only for Italian goalkeeper Matilde Robbioni to make an excellent save.

Just before halftime, Anna Copelli broke the deadlock for Italy, skillfully weaving past the Nigerian defense before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Sylvia Echefu to make it 1-0.

Nigeria thought they had equalized ten minutes into the second half when Nguemo Terlumun found the net after a determined run by Queen Joseph, but the goal was disallowed following a Video Support Review (VSR), which determined that Joseph had kicked the ball out of the goalkeeper’s hands.

Italy capitalized almost immediately, with Caterina Venturelli doubling their lead in the 58th minute through a stunning long-range strike that sailed over Echefu and into the net.

Five minutes later, Giulia Robino made it 3-0 with a composed finish, before Rachelle Giudici sealed the win in the 89th minute after a VSR confirmed her goal was onside.

The heavy defeat brought an end to Nigeria’s campaign in Morocco, as the Flamingos exited the competition earlier than expected.

Despite the setback, the Nigerian team will now shift their focus to preparing for the qualifying series for the next FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, which will now be held annually.
