Italy Beat Turkey 3-1 to Strengthen Nations League Quarter-Final Push

Posted : 06 October 2026

Italy boosted their Nations League quarter-final hopes with a 3-1 victory over Turkey at Bologna’s Dall’Ara Stadium, moving second in Group A1 with seven points.

Gianluca Scamacca opened the scoring in the 26th minute before Aral Şimşir restored parity shortly after the hour mark. Italy quickly regained control as Riccardo Calafiori headed them back in front, while Pio Esposito sealed the victory with his 87th-minute goal.

The result extended Italy’s unbeaten run across their last three Nations League matches after a 4-1 win over Turkey and a 1-1 draw with France. Roberto Mancini’s side now sit three points behind leaders France and one ahead of Belgium, while Turkey remain bottom without a point after four defeats.

Mancini made several changes to his starting lineup but was pleased with how his team responded after Turkey’s equaliser. Italy will return to Nations League action in November, when they face Belgium away before hosting France.
