2023/2024 NPFL Match Day 30: It's a hot clash in Enugu as Rangers International FC welcomes Abia Warriors FC for Oriental derby

It will certainly be a match to watch out for as the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) league leaders, Rangers International FC, welcome Abia Warriors to the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, aka "The Cathedral", for NPFL Match Day 30.

While many pundits are already tipping the seven-time winners of the Nigerian League, the Flying Antelopes, for the trophy given their recent superficial run of winning, which has seen the Coal City club on a seven-match unbeaten streak, the Chief tactician, Fidelis Ilechukwu, seems to have played down their chances.

Ilechukwu, during an interview within the week, said it was too early to tip his team to win the league given the number of league matches yet to be played, which is nine altogether.

However, it is evident that Rangers International FC has continued to make steady progress in the league, but they have not been making much noise about it.

The team had started their league campaign playing away from home in Awka when the Cathedral was undergoing renovations, yet they were able to put out decent performances and avoid home defeats until the NPFL restored them back to their traditional home ground.

For the Flying Antelopes, they have yet to lose in the last five matches after securing three wins and two draws.

Abia Warriors FC, on the other hand, have only won one match out of their last five matches, having one win, two losses, and two draws.

It will, however, be a tough call for the Abia Warriors to win when going to the Cathedral, a ground famous for home wins.

Head to head: Rangers International FC and Abia Warriors have so far played 17 matches.

Rangers won 6 direct matches while Abia Warriors won 6 matches and 5 matches ended in a draw.
