Isco Scores Twice as Real Betis Thrash Osasuna 5–2 to Climb Third in La Liga

Posted : 12 October 2026

Veteran midfielder Isco scored twice as Real Betis defeated Osasuna 5–2 on Sunday to move into third place in La Liga. The victory lifted Manuel Pellegrini’s side above Real Madrid and level on points with Atletico Madrid, leaving them five points behind leaders Barcelona.

Betis secured their sixth league win in eight matches with an impressive attacking performance at La Cartuja Stadium, their temporary home while renovations continue at the Benito Villamarin Stadium.

Isco, 34, opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Rodrigo Riquelme was fouled, before Ez Abde doubled the hosts’ advantage with a composed finish around the half-hour mark.

Osasuna’s problems deepened after the break when Ante Budimir scored an own goal to make it 3–0. However, the Croatian striker soon found the net at the correct end, and Raul Garcia added another goal to give the visitors hope of mounting a comeback.

Isco restored Betis’ breathing room by reacting quickest to a loose ball inside the penalty area to claim his second goal of the match. Jose Morante then completed the scoring in stoppage time, sealing a convincing victory for the hosts.

Pellegrini acknowledged that his team had allowed Osasuna back into the contest after building a substantial lead.

“Football is never truly under control,” the Betis coach said. “As soon as the pace drops, the other team can pull level.”

The former Manchester City manager also praised Isco’s quality and experience, highlighting his ability to perform at a high level.

“He has spectacular quality and a maturity as a player that allows him to perform at whatever level he wants to,” Pellegrini added.

Valencia and Real Sociedad Also Feature in La Liga Action

Elsewhere, Valencia earned a 2–2 draw against Racing Santander in Javier Aguirre’s first match as coach, while Real Sociedad edged Deportivo La Coruña 3–2 in an entertaining encounter.

Real Sociedad established a three-goal advantage before Mario Soriano reduced the deficit for Deportivo. The visitors’ hopes of completing a comeback improved when Pablo Marín was sent off in the 66th minute for fouling Nsongo Bil inside the penalty area, allowing Yeremay Hernández to score from the spot.

Both sides finished with 10 players after Lorenzo Amatucci was dismissed for bringing down Mikel Oyarzabal as the last defender. Deportivo were unable to find a late equaliser, leaving Real Sociedad with all three points.

League leaders Barcelona strengthened their position on Saturday with a 3–0 victory over Getafe, extending their perfect start to eight wins from eight matches.

Atletico Madrid remained second after securing a late 2–1 win away to Alavés, while Real Madrid overcame Villarreal 1–0 despite Vinícius Júnior receiving a red card for pulling an opponent’s hair.

The results leave Barcelona at the top, with Atletico and Betis continuing to pursue the leaders as the La Liga campaign gathers momentum.
